📘 Simple Present Tense

The Simple Present Tense is used to describe:

  • Habits and routines 🕒
  • General truths or facts 🌍
  • Scheduled events 🗓️
  • Feelings and preferences ❤️

Positive Sentences

Subject Verb (Base Form) Example
I / You / We / They verb I play football.
He / She / It verb + -s/es She plays the piano.

🔹 Verb + -s rules:

  • Most verbs: add -s → play → plays
  • Verbs ending in -ch, -sh, -ss, -x, -o: add -es → go → goes, watch → watches
  • Verbs ending in a consonant + y: change y to ies → study → studies

Negative Sentences

Use do not (don’t) or does not (doesn’t) + base verb.

Subject Auxiliary + Not Base Verb Example
I / You / We / They don’t play They don’t play tennis.
He / She / It doesn’t play He doesn’t play guitar.

✅ Always use the base form of the verb after "don’t/doesn’t".


Questions

Use Do or Does at the beginning of the question.
