📘 Stative Verbs (State Verbs)

Stative verbs describe states or conditions that are generally not actions or physical movements.


1️⃣ Categories of Stative Verbs

Category Examples
Emotions love, hate, like, dislike
Thoughts know, believe, think, understand
Senses see, hear, smell, taste, feel
Possession have, own, belong
Being be, seem, appear

2️⃣ Examples in Sentences

  • I love chocolate.
  • She knows the answer.
  • They own a car.
  • The soup tastes delicious.

3️⃣ Important Note

  • Stative verbs are usually not used in continuous (-ing) forms.
    • Correct: I know him.
    • Incorrect: I am knowing him.
