📘 Superlatives (the fastest, the most expensive)

Superlatives are used to show the highest or lowest degree of something among three or more.


1️⃣ One-syllable adjectives → Add -est

Structure:
the + adjective + -est

Examples:

  • fast → the fastest
  • tall → the tallest
  • small → the smallest

Example sentence:
She is the tallest in the class.


2️⃣ One-syllable adjectives ending with vowel + consonant → Double the consonant and add -est

Examples:

  • big → the biggest
  • hot → the hottest
  • thin → the thinnest

3️⃣ Two-syllable adjectives ending in -y → Change -y to -iest

Examples:

  • happy → the happiest
  • busy → the busiest
  • easy → the easiest

4️⃣ Two or more syllables → Use the most + adjective

Structure:
the most + adjective

Examples:

  • the most expensive
  • the most interesting
  • the most beautiful

Example sentence:
This is the most expensive car in the lot.
